I have to say that I'm not in favor of adding magic to the webserver that
could be used to fiddle with limits. My rationale is this: a) it's
established convention that on unix you set the limits before you start a
process that has certain needs... how you do that will depend on the OS.
Occasionally, the limit comes in handy, and sometimes, hitting a limit
tips you off to a bigger problem that you might otherwise not know about
had you bumped your (in this case) fd limit to 10,000.
What's needed (imho) is a set of good documentation for tuning caudium.
That would include the appropriate methods for adjusting the limits,
memory utilization, etc.
