Hello,
I agree, but what I'm suggesting is this: 1) we don't run our own
hardware and 2) this might be something more of a pike community
project rather than a caudium specific one; we'd just be one of the
first big projects to use a Pike Forge.
Caudium @Kazar is a bit distributed :
- lists are in one dedicated server
- caudium.net web site and ftp is in one jail (VPS like)
- CVS is in one jail (VPS Like)
- caudiumforge was in the same jail as caudium but I don't had the
time yet to move it into it because of MySQL dependency that is on a
separate server
- mail is handled by my mutualized system (3 mailhub, 3 LDAP Servers,
3 sql server replicated)...
Ok this is a bit overhead but this how I put Caudium into Kazar (I
don't count DNS yet....).
Problem I had facing :
- caudium.net website cannot be hosted withing VHS :)
- CVS over SSH is pain in the ass in term of security... if you have
hww AT cvs, the you have to run a different ssh server to handle CVS and
local accounts...
Also all precious data (cvs, sql, ftp, ....) are stored into Netapp,
because disk crash come as fast as crazy....
Now, Kazar can host for free 1U factor server that *doesn't* eat too
mutch power : eg PIII / Pentium D / Core 2 Duo machine (but not P4 /
Xeon P4)... but really I will not have time to made day to day
administration excepted to help Caudium Community (pike community
also ?) to move Caudium stuff from VPS etc... to this server).
Caudium Community has just to find the server and send me to france :)
/Xavier
